Now we are all familiar with the saying “A dog is a Man’s best friend” right? They travel with their owners to work, accompany them on family camping trips and even have doggy calendars themselves! So why should the family’s annual Ski holiday be any different?

The freedom to bring our canine companions to winter resorts appears more in demand than ever before. Especially when celebrating important occasions such as Christmas and Half Term, when the kids can’t bear to watch those puppy dog eyes as they whisk their suitcases off leaving one key member of the family behind….The last thing you want is a road trip through the alps with a car full of heatbroken crying/sulking children!

For this reason the Ski in Luxury team decided to create a luxury dog friendly chalets page, making it quick and easy for guests to decide on the perfect winter retreat, safe in the knowledge that Bertie the Labrador and Frank the Frenchie can accompany them with ease.

Chalet owners and operators know how important our family pets are, they have them too. Meet Axel (Yorkshire Terrier on the right) he is one of many lucky dog’s who not only gets to visit the resorts and indulge in a luxury chalet alongside his owners, but also gets to hit the slopes too!

Now that is a piste puppy pow wow if ever we saw one…

With this privilege may come the polite request to keep off furniture or limit them to the downstairs of your chalet to avoid too much dog hair cleaning, however this is a small rule to adhere to if it means everyone being together. Some will also request a damage deposit in case Bertie and Frank decide to go absolutely bonkers while you are skiing and tear the furniture up all together…we hope this isn’t the case and are sure our guests are as mindful of ski chalets as they would be their own home!

Luckily the Ski in Luxury team have heard of no doggy disasters, however there have been some great tales told of diva dogs. We once heard of a dog that got flown with a member of staff from Val d’Isere to Geneva mid-way through the family ski holiday for a desperate hair cut that couldn’t possibly wait a moment longer – in a chartered helicopter of course. Emergency averted! And the dog was returned safely the same day, just in time to meet its owners on the mountain for lunch.

What’s that other saying about dogs being like their owners?…
