This efficient and only partly purpose-built resort lies between Grenoble and Briançon, within easy reach of Alpe d'Huez in one direction and Serre Chevalier and Montgenèvre in the other.
Located where the Northern and Southern Alps meet, in the heart of the Oisans massif and on the doorstep of the Écrins national park, the 2 Alpes resort offers a unique combination of slopes, and guaranteed year-round snow for everyone, from beginners to experts, between 1,300 and 3,600 metres.
The resort is a major freeriding, freestyling, and carving spot, where those in the know can yield to their craving for snow, thanks in part to the permanent snowpark.
Les Deux Alpes has a lively and an especially friendly atmosphere, plus an excellent variety of interesting shops and boutiques, a heated outdoor pool and ice rink (free with the lift pass), and a myriad of lively bars and inviting restaurants.
Since 1946 and the first ski lift, Les 2 Alpes has always been innovating and developing its slopes, guided by the evolution of skiing.
An ever-wider range of pistes has become a playground for young and old. In addition to traditional maintenance and improvement work on the slopes, replacement of lifts, and the development of artificial snow production, the resort has made room to the new wave of snow sports with the creation of the SLIDE zone. This innovative concept allows each and everyone to safely discover all of today’s new skiing activities. Ledges, waterfalls, canyons, gullies, etc., including a 900m long boardercross and new facilities for kids.
Apres-Ski:
Les Deux Alpes scores highly for après-ski among those who like lively, noisy bars and discos and do not mind bumping into lots of other British people.
The Irish Bar, Windsor Pub and Smokey Joe’s are recommended. Rodéo Saloon, at the Venosc end of town, displays a mechanical bull, which inevitably attracts the wilder element of après-skiers.
The three discos are Waaza, L’Avalanche and L’Opéra Music Temple.
The best places to eat out at night are the restaurants in the Berangere and the Chalet Mounier hotels. Those on more modest budgets can try the Bel’Auberge , Les Bleue ts or Smokey Joe’s Tex-Mex.
