Located in the heart of Tyrol, the attractive village of Ellmau and it's pretty neighbouring village of Going, have a special Austrian atmosphere and are situated directly beside the rugged "Wild Emperor" mountains. Within the area of Söll, they lie on the same vast "Ski Welt" circus which interlinks all the resorts circling the main Hohe Salve mountain.
The linked villages of Söll, Going, Ellmau, Scheffau, Itter, Hopfgarten, and Brixen-in-Thale all line the valley around the dome-shaped massif. Each of these resorts provides access into the system, either by gondola or by funicular from Ellmau or by quad-chair from Going. The resorts are linked on the main road by post-bus, but not by free ski bus, so in the afternoon it is advisable to keep an eye on your watch. All of them, except south-facing Hopgarten and Brixen, have dedicated nursery slopes at the bottom of the mountain.
Beginners Wide open, gentle nursery slopes lie conveniently close to the resort centre.
Intermediates Relatively inexperienced skiers will enjoy the extensive choice of blue runs between Ellmau and Söll. For "red runners" there is a circuit of over 20 linked runs in the whole region, many leading directly back to the village.
Advanced There are a number of black runs for the skier who likes to be challenged; one of the best starts from the peak of Hohe Salve through the Leukenwald area. Off piste is varied.
Apres-Ski:
Apres-ski and evening entertainment is plentiful and varied with lively evenings or traditional Austrian events. Some of the more popular nightspots include Route 66, Pub Memory, Disco Tenne and DJ Otzi Bar.
