St Jean d'Aulps, a quaint little village located in the heart of the Vallée d'Aulps, really is a hidden gem of ski resort. A family resort, St Jean d'Aulps offers skiers the grandiose backdrop of "le Roc d'Enfer" down to la Chèvrerie.
St Jean D’Aulps is within easy access of the main Portes du Soleil ski area (Morzine is a 5 minute drive away), however the town has it’s own ski area - la Grande Terche – with 34 km of pistes.
The Grande Terche ski area is not linked by lifts to the rest of the Portes du Soleil region, meaning that the pistes never get too crowded. This makes it ideal for families and beginners, however there is a lot of accessible off piste to be found which will keep more advanced skiers and snowboarders happy.
Saint Jean d'Aulps has inherited its name from the old French word for "alpage", meaning high mountain pasture. Thanks to its abbey and the monks who lived there, Saint Jean d'Aulps lays claim to be the ancestor of the surrounding villages in the Vallée d'Aulps.
With the growth of the skiing industry, Saint Jean d'Aulps has become an important winter sports resort destination. It offers many natural advantages for skiers and snowboarders, including the famous Roc d'Enfer circuit. The ski resort has an excellent snow record, and is an integral part of the Portes du Soleil.

Apres-Ski:
You don't have to travel far – or get in a car – for a good night out. La Grande Terche has several informal restaurants and bars serving traditional dishes such as fondue and raclette, plus pizza and curry (some offer a take away service too).
St. Jean d'Aulps has a wider range of amenities – including a supermarket, cash point, post office and an excellent Office de Tourisme. Apres-ski is relaxed and friendly with some excellent bars and restaurants reasonably priced. The village regularly puts on events, including a weekly torchlight descent by the ski instructors and special celebrations at Christmas, New Year and Easter.
There is a wider choice of night life in Morzine and Les Gets.
For great dining experiences, in St Jean village you can't beat L'Amandier…..delicious food!! There is also Pere Bill's which serves up very nice Savoyard food and offers great hospitality.
