Chalet Des Pistes

The Property

Chalet Des Pistes is the smallest of the three chalets that reside within this property. The others; Des Neiges and Des Pentes sleep 14 and 10 people and so the three chalets combined can accommodate groups of up to 30. Located on the edge of the OK, the World Cup run, and literally yards from several other famous runs. The Funival is just below on one side, the La Daille bubble is just below on the other side, and the Les Etroits chairlift goes pretty much over the roof.

Being right on the pistes is great. Getting to the slopes is no longer a chore, and waiting for buses a thing of the past. You can even be on the Tignes slopes as fast as most people staying in Tignes.

At the end of the day, good skiers ski right back to the door. Less good skiers stop where they started, thirty seconds’ walk away. These runs offer skiing for every standard, ultra-quick lifts back up and guaranteed snow from snow cannons top to bottom.

You can stay up the mountain until the pisteurs close the slopes, enjoying live musicians on the terrace of the Folie Douce, or dead musicians in front of the log fire at the excellent Trifollet. And once the lifts close, the lower slopes are taken over by tearaway toddlers on toboggans!

Inside, the chalets are gorgeous. Their owner makes traditional furniture, so they are beautifully furnished and meticulously finished, with lots of stone and old wood. The sitting and dining rooms are magnificent, with deep hand-made sofas and bespoke curtains.

Des Neiges has a dining room with an open-plan kitchen. Its vast L-shaped sitting room has an equally vast log fire, french windows and balconies. Des Pentes and des Pistes each have a superb living room with a log fire.

Des Neiges has every satellite channel imaginable on its plasma screen, plus DVD, surround-sound and WiFi. Des Pistes actually picks up WiFi from des Neiges, but at des Pentes you have to step out into the snow to go online!

There are safes, private ski lockers and boot warmers for every bedroom, and a basement drying room.

Chalet des Neiges has seven bedrooms, des Pentes five and des Pistes three. They are not bigger than necessary but they are very comfortable, with lots of old wood, smart bathrooms, underfloor heating, good lighting and longer, firmer beds than is usual in France.

Based on exclusive occupancy of all beds, prices are per person and include return charter flights from Gatwick to Grenoble including ski carriage, return coach transfers between the airport and Val d’Isère; accommodation as described; catering; linen; towels (changed mid-week); and local taxes.
