For anyone hunting for a little je ne sais quoi on their next skiing holiday, a luxury ski chalet in France is the perfect choice! Alongside incredible skiing and alpine charm, France serves up amazing apres ski, gourmet cuisine and, of course, some of the finest luxury mountain chalets in the Alps.

Widely considered to be the best country for skiing, France is home to a number of the largest ski areas in the world, including the Three Valleys, Portes du Soleil, Paradiski and the Espace Killy. Our collection of luxury ski chalets in France spans 25 ski resorts across the French Alps, from the exclusivity of Courchevel 1850, to the family favourite of Morzine, and Chamonix, the adventure capital of Europe. Whether you are picturing a fully catered chalet with a private chef, a smart self-catered apartment right on the piste, or a grand skiing lodge for a big gathering, our Ski Specialists know these resorts first-hand and will help you find the one that fits.

The Best Ski Resorts in France for a Luxury Chalet Holiday

The most popular ski resorts in France are set within some of the largest ski areas in the world, and each has a character all of its own. Here is where our guests return year after year, and why.

The Three Valleys: Courchevel, Meribel & Val Thorens

The Three Valleys is perhaps the most famous ski area of them all. With 600km of connected pistes it is the largest linked ski region in the world, and it is possible to spend a lifetime simply exploring the vast Trois Vallees and the unique culture of each of the resorts within. Across the Three Valleys, guests can enjoy an exclusive collection of French luxury chalets, from contemporary ski in ski out apartments in Val Thorens, to luxe chalets in the authentic village of St Martin de Belleville, alpine opulence in Meribel and Courchevel 1850, and excellent value for luxury in La Tania.

The Portes du Soleil: Morzine, Les Gets, Avoriaz & Chatel

British skiers in particular love the French ski resorts of the Portes du Soleil. Spanning around 600km of pistes across both France and Switzerland, this international ski area encompasses Morzine, Les Gets, Avoriaz and Chatel, home to a whole array of chalets, from self-catered ski apartments to some of France's best value luxury catered ski chalets. Situated just 90 minutes or so from Geneva Airport, the Portes du Soleil is also ideal for luxury ski weekends and corporate ski holidays in France.

Chamonix, Megeve & the Mont Blanc Region

The Mont Blanc region can boast perhaps the most impressive ski heritage in Europe. There is Chamonix, home to the majestic peak itself and the legendary 20km Vallee Blanche glacier run, glacier skiing at Argentiere, and the ultra-luxurious village of Megeve, where the Rothschild family established one of Europe's most exclusive holiday destinations. As befits this heritage, these are considered amongst the best ski resorts in France for a luxury chalet holiday.

Val d'Isere & Tignes: The Espace Killy

Serious skiers are always drawn to Val d'Isere and Tignes, whose shared ski area, the famed Espace Killy, offers 300km of high altitude pistes and a snow record few resorts in Europe can match. Exceptional ski infrastructure makes for a smooth holiday experience, and both resorts offer a superb array of ski accommodation, making them great choices for family ski holidays to France. Families also love the charming ski village of Sainte Foy nearby, where children can safely explore the pretty ski area and more adventurous powder hounds can tackle some of the most extensive and accessible back country skiing in France.

Paradiski: Les Arcs & La Plagne

Completing the great ski areas of the Tarentaise, Paradiski links Les Arcs and La Plagne with 425km of wonderfully varied terrain. It is a favourite with groups of mixed abilities, and our portfolio here runs from smart apartments and penthouse suites through to spacious chalets made for family ski holidays.

Luxury Catered Ski Chalets in France

The catered chalet is a great British institution, and France is where it reaches its highest expression. Book a catered ski chalet in France and your chalet team will typically include a chef and host, and in many properties a driver and concierge too. Mornings begin with a cooked breakfast before the lifts open, afternoon tea is waiting when you click out of your skis, and evenings bring a multi course dinner with paired wines in front of the fire.

Fine dining is a fundamental part of the Ski In Luxury experience, and bespoke menu consultation comes as standard in many of our deluxe ski chalets, so favourite dishes and dietary requirements are agreed long before you fly. At the top end of the collection, in-chalet dining rivals the best restaurants in resort. A catered chalet needn't mean dining in every night either; your chalet manager can arrange evenings out in resort at times to suit you. Ski Accommodation in France: Chalets, Lodges & Apartments

Luxury ski accommodation in France comes in more shapes and sizes than anywhere else in the Alps. Alongside classic catered chalets there are grand skiing lodges in France's most exclusive villages, contemporary ski apartments in the high altitude resorts, and boutique bed and breakfast chalets full of alpine character. Self catered ski chalets are a wonderful option for those who prefer to set their own pace, and our guide to the best self-catered ski chalets in France is a good place to start. We also feature a small collection of luxury ski hotels for those who prefer hotel service. Or simply browse every property in one place in our collection of luxury ski chalets in France, and let our Ski Specialists do the legwork for you.

When to Go: The French Ski Season

The ski season in France runs from early December to late April, and every stage has its own appeal. Early season snow is most reliable in high altitude resorts such as Val Thorens and Tignes, while the festive weeks bring the magic of Christmas and New Year in the mountains, and book up furthest in advance. January is the connoisseur's choice, with quiet pistes, cold snow and better value for luxury. February brings the school holidays, so families planning a half term ski holiday should reserve their chalet up to a year ahead. March and April deliver long sunny days, spring snow and some lovely availability for Easter ski holidays. Unsure which week would suit your party best? Our team will happily advise.

Getting to the French Alps

Part of the appeal of a ski holiday in France is just how easy it is to reach from the UK. Geneva is the main gateway, around 90 minutes from the Portes du Soleil and roughly two and a half hours from Courchevel, while Lyon, Chambery and Grenoble serve the Tarentaise and the southern French Alps. There are also high speed rail connections from Paris to Moutiers and Bourg-Saint-Maurice for the Three Valleys, Val d'Isere and Paradiski. Every resort transfers a little differently, so tell our Ski Specialists where you are travelling from and they will advise on the smoothest route to your chalet door.

Ski Chalet Holidays in France: Your Questions Answered

Can I book a fully catered luxury ski chalet in France?

Yes. Catered ski chalets in France are at the heart of our collection, with a private chef and chalet host, and in many properties a driver and concierge service too. Menus can be tailored to your party, from children's teas to multi course dinner parties, and bespoke menu consultation comes as standard in many of our deluxe chalets. See our luxury catered chalets for the full selection.

Which French ski resorts have the best luxury chalets?

Courchevel 1850 is the undisputed heavyweight, home to some of the most opulent ski chalets in the world, closely followed by Val d'Isere, Meribel and Megeve. For something quieter, St Martin de Belleville and Sainte Foy offer luxe chalets with authentic village charm. It all depends on the balance of skiing, scene and seclusion you are after, which is exactly what our Ski Specialists will help you weigh up.

How much does a luxury catered chalet in France cost?

There is a wide range. As a rough guide, luxury self-catered apartments and smaller chalets can start from a few thousand euros per week, while France's flagship catered chalets in resorts such as Courchevel 1850 command six figure sums for peak weeks like Christmas, New Year and February half term. Each chalet in our collection displays its price range, and our team will always be straight with you about where the value lies for your dates.

Are luxury ski chalets in France good for families?

France is hard to beat for a family ski holiday. Many of our family ski chalets come with bunk rooms, swimming pools, hot tubs and cinema rooms to keep every generation happy, in resorts with excellent ski schools. Morzine, Les Gets and Sainte Foy are long standing family favourites.

When should I book a ski chalet in France?

For Christmas, New Year and February half term, the best chalets in France are often reserved 10 to 12 months ahead, and the most sought after properties in Courchevel 1850 and Val d'Isere can book out even earlier. There is usually more flexibility for January and late March, and occasionally a genuine late deal appears on our special offers page. If you have your heart set on a particular chalet, the golden rule is simple: enquire early.
