When planning a luxury ski holiday to Switzerland, there are many resorts that spring to mind straight away… Verbier, Zermatt, St Moritz, however skiing in Saas Fee is perhaps one of the slightly lesser known Swiss ski resorts. Saas Fee, (pronounced Sas Fay, which took me a while to master), is hidden away close to the Italian border and really has a lot going for it. Here are my top reasons why you should consider a luxury skiing holiday in Saas Fee.

1. Saas Fee is ideal for beginners

Saas Fee is one of the best Swiss ski resorts for beginners and intermediates. There is a dedicated beginner area at the edge of the village which is covered by a beginner lift pass and has an excellent snow record.

Higher up the mountain on the Glacier, there is a great selection of progression slopes where you can get that all important practice in, and the snow is almost guaranteed to be top quality powder!

Ski lessons are available for complete newbies, or if you want to brush up on your technique. If you want to see a real improvement in your skiing by the end of the week, then a luxury ski holiday to Saas Fee is just what you need.

2. Exceptional snow reports

If you are looking for guaranteed snow this winter, then look no further than Saas Fee! At an altitude of 1,800m and lifts up to 3,600m, the Saas Fee snow report is about as snow sure as you can get! In fact, it is one of the very few ski resorts where you can ski all 365 days of the year.

Unfortunately, we can’t guarantee that we’ll have another winter of snow like last year (17/18), which will be remembered as one of the best years for snow, but in Saas Fee you don’t have to worry, as every year is a good snow year!

3. Activities for the non-skier

Are you looking for a non-skier activity in Saas Fee? As difficult as it may be for some of us to get our heads around, skiing isn’t for everyone. More and more, we are asked about activities for the non-skiers in the group when looking for luxury chalets in the Swiss Alps.

Even the skiers amongst you might want to take a break from the ski boots and try out some of the fantastic activities available in Saas Fee. In fact, it has a whole mountain dedicated to non-skier activities! The Hannig has its own lift and doesn’t have a ski piste in sight. With a 5km toboggan run, walking trails, snowshoeing and paragliding, a day on the mountains can be just as enjoyable (if not more) for the non-skier in the group.

A guaranteed highlight for the non-skier is a trip to the Fee Glacier, an Ice Pavilion over 5,500 square metres in size. Ice sculptures, exhibitions and events all add to the appeal of a visit to this ice cave. If that isn’t enough to persuade you, then here is something for the thrill seekers in the group, an avalanche simulation with lighting effects and a shock wave that reverberates through the entire body!

4. Something for the foodies

If, like me, the food and drink aspect of a luxury ski holiday is just as enticing as the skiing, you won’t be disappointed!

Even when staying in luxury catered chalets, you still have lunch to think about and of course the staff nights off. Saas Fee has a huge selection of local restaurants to suit all tastes, including , a locally run, speciality raclette and fondue restaurant seating just 20 guests. A trip to Saas Fee also wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Three Sixty, the world’s highest revolving restaurant! At 3,500 metres above sea level it has some of the best views in the Alps!

Another favourite is the Brasserie restaurant at The Capra Hotel. Open for lunch and dinner daily and offering fine dining at the weekends, the restaurant has a ‘farm to table’ philosophy, their menu reflects the seasons and uses fresh, local produce from the towns farmers.
