Samoëns is part of the Grand Massif ski area, which links directly to Flaine, Les Carroz, Morillon, and Sixt, offering more than 265km of pistes. The local gondola swiftly whisks skiers up to Samoëns 1600, where slopes for all abilities fan out. Complete novices skiing in Samoëns will appreciate the variety of nursery slopes at Les Saix (Samoëns 1600), while more confident skiers can try the blue and red pistes that sweep down from the top of the Chariande Express chairlift.
The iconic Piste des Cascades is an impressive 14km long red run from Flaine down to the village of Sixt, well worth ticking off your skiing bucket list on a ski holiday to Samoëns. For experienced skiers, Samoëns has a few black runs to test the legs, while there's lift accessible freeride zones up in Flaine along with a couple of challenging mogul fields. Snow conditions in the higher areas of the Grand Massif are reliable thanks to high-altitude bowls and north-facing slopes, stretching up to 2,500m.
What sets Samoëns apart is its unique status as the only French ski resort to be classified as a “Monument Historique.” Nestled in the valley at 700m, the village's heritage is evident in its old church, charming marketplace, and 18th-century buildings, giving visitors a sense of tradition often missing in modern ski hubs. Despite this history, the resort also caters to today's discerning traveller, with a select collection of luxury chalets in Samoëns that provide a stylish home from which to explore.
These luxury ski chalets in Samoëns blend classic alpine design with deluxe comforts, often including chalet hot tubs, log fires, and, of course, awe-inspiring mountain views. Staying in one of our Samoëns chalets offers the perfect balance of privacy, comfort, and convenience. Samoëns is a popular choice for family ski holidays, especially with young children learning to ski, or couples looking for something special.
Après ski in Samoëns is relaxed and atmospheric. Visitors can enjoy a quiet drink in a cosy bar, listen to live music in a couple of pubs, or simply retreat to their chalet for an evening by the fire. Dining options are surprisingly varied, especially for family restaurants and regional specialists.
For non-skiers or a break from the slopes, activities range from snowshoe walks through pine forests to paragliding, ice skating, or spa treatments. With its vibrant local culture, Samoëns also offers something different to many ski resorts. From artisan shops to a lively weekly market (one of the oldest and largest in the region), there's plenty to enjoy off the mountain.
With its combination of traditional village charm and outstanding ski access, luxury ski holidays in Samoëns deliver something truly unique. Choose one of our ski chalets in Samoëns to enjoy all the benefits of a major ski domain while retreating to the tranquillity of a historic alpine village.
