The Chedi Andermatt

An aerial view of the Chedi Andermatt in the snow, where you can see the main hotel buildings, its winter courtyard, and parts of the spa area with outdoor swimming pool.

There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe The Chedi Andermatt. Assuredly, it is amongst the best luxury ski hotels in Switzerland, if not the World. The behemoth of a hotel, home to 119 rooms/suites, is the focal point of the resort of Andermatt, with all visitors to the village drawn to its luxurious amenities.

The Chedi Andermatt boasts an unbelievable 2,400m² spa area, which is undoubtedly one of the best mountain spas in a ski resort. This comprehensive Spa & Health Club features a Far Eastern philosophy and design elements that combine Asian and Alpine influences, similar to that in the rest of the hotel. From the 35m indoor swimming pool to the 12m outdoor one, state-of-the-art fitness facilities, multiple variants of sauna and steam room, Jacuzzis, massage cabins, and treatment rooms, the number of facilities available to you here is astonishing.

The spa area of The Chedi Andermatt is rivalled only by its dining options. As a 5 star hotel in the Swiss Alps, it’s no surprise The Chedi’s restaurants are fantastic. Even the hotel’s main restaurant enjoys 14 Gault Millau points, while you are likely to be bowled away by the incredible cheese tower. Cheese isn’t the only impressive collection at The Chedi, with the cigar and wine libraries also providing rare and luxurious varieties of the finer things in life.

Each winter, The Chedi Andermatt transforms its main courtyard into the enchanting Winter Village. The Winter Village is like the hotel’s own Christmas market, except available for the whole season instead. There are authentic, cosy restaurants, charming market booths for souvenirs and mulled wine, and even a number of additional spa facilities, including an outdoor hot tub and barrel sauna.

Badrutt’s Palace, St Moritz

The lit up exterior of one of the oldest and best luxury ski hotels in Europe, Badrutt's Palace, at dusk. The frozen Lake St Moritz sits next to it, with mountainous views in the background.

Standing majestic upon the shores of Lake St Moritz, Badrutt’s Palace is easily one of the best luxury ski hotels in Europe. As with many luxury ski hotels in St Moritz, the Badrutt’s Palace style epitomises old-world, historic glamour. This heritage is authentic as the hotel’s origins begin in 1896, when it was opened by and named for Caspar Badrutt, the pioneer of winter tourism in St Moritz, and consequently, the Alps. The world’s first palace hotel, its tower is one of the most iconic features in resort, and the 164 rooms and suites still welcome discerning clientele to this day.

As far as luxury hotels in Switzerland go, the spa area of Badrutt’s Palace is amongst the most spectacular. The Palace Wellness spa is a sublime addition to this stunning hotel. The main highlight is undoubtedly the gargantuan indoor swimming pool, which features an impressive wraparound glass facade that frames the gorgeous snowy mountain landscape. A plethora of additional features, including a heated outdoor swimming pool, state-of-the-art fitness centre, saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, and private spa suites are also available. There’s even a dedicated spa restaurant!

The restaurant in the spa is just the beginning of the incredible dining options. Badrutt’s Palace is home to an astounding 11 establishments for drinking, dining, and partying; everything from grand ballrooms that evoke the classical style of the Regency and Belle Epoque eras, to cosy chalet-style restaurants, and one of the best nightclubs in ski resorts, the lavish King’s Social House.

If all this isn’t enough to claim a spot on our list of best luxury ski hotels in the Alps, there’s a parade of extra little highlights to make your stay remarkable. From the hotel’s own ice rink, to discounted lift passes, and Rolls-Royce transfers from the train station. The hotel, out of season, can even be rented in complete exclusivity, the ultimate celebration for the most distinguished clientele.

There are 6 stylish chalet-suites, including Le K2 Palace – Chalet Suite K6, which all provide groups of up to 6 guests their own luxurious space. For the ultimate getaway, there are also Le K2 Chalets, 6 luxury chalets with swimming pools, ranging in size from 480m² to 650m², and sleeping between 10-14 guests. Hotel Airelles Val d’Isère

One of the best luxury ski hotels in Europe for location, the stone and wood exterior of Hotel Airelles Val d'Isère is seen here adjacent to the snow front in resort, with mountains in the background.

While there are a surplus of reasons for Hotel Airelles Val d’Isère to be included on our list of the best luxury ski hotels in Europe, the primary one has to be its incredible location. Part of the Airelles collection, alongside the aforementioned Hotel Les Airelles Courchevel, this 5* hotel sits in a prime location in the centre of resort on the edge of Val d’Isère’s main snow front. It’s hard to find a better situated property in this prestigious French ski resort, with the hotel having easy ski in/ski out access to the main Solaise and Olympique lifts, as well as the beginner’s chairlift and ski school meeting points. Not to mention the gorgeous panoramic views both up the Manchet valley and towards the legendary Face de Bellevarde piste.

The Alpina Gstaad

The corner towers, roof, and part of the exteriors of the Alpina Gstaad hotel, nestled amongst trees and mountains, all of which have been blanketed by snow, on a blue sky day.

The palatial Alpina Gstaad is already one of the best luxury ski hotels in Gstaad, if not Switzerland, having only been established as recently as 2012. In that time, however, its four corner towers have become an iconic sight across the resort skyline, with its picturesque location nestled amongst woodland above the main promenade. The Alpina Gstaad houses 56 capacious rooms and suites, which exhibit a rustic, authentic alpine style that belies the modern nature of the hotel, all of which are furnished to the highest standards of luxury. From the magnificence of the grand entrance lobby, The Alpina Gstaad impresses as soon as you enter the hotel, setting expectations for a truly luxurious holiday. Steps lead from the lobby up towards the chic bar and lounge area, one of a number of fabulous establishments within the walls of the hotel. From authentic Swiss dishes and local gourmet cuisine, to the more exotic flavours of Megu, one of the best Asian restaurants in all of Switzerland, you’ll be left spoilt for choice in where to indulge for mealtimes. In addition, the hotel boasts a Japanese Whisky Bar and a cigar lounge, for unique tastes of life’s opulent indulgences.

Perhaps the most essential reason for the Alpina Gstaad’s inclusion in our collection of the best luxury ski hotels in Europe is its 2,000m² Six Senses Spa. Sublime treatments, heated indoor and outdoor swimming pools, Jacuzzis, plunge pools, multiple variations of sauna and steam room, unique biohacking technology, dedicated expert therapies; the hotel’s spa offers the ultimate wellness escape.

Augmenting the Alpina Gstaad’s pedigree, the hotel is also committed to sustainability. We have rated it as one of the best luxury eco chalets in the Alps. And for the epitome of luxury choose the 400m² Panorama Residence across the top floors of the hotel, complete with a host of private spa facilities.
